Pump Flow Rate: The most important thing to consider when choosing a pond pump is the flow rate, which is most commonly measured in litres per hour. Some pond pump ranges have models with a controllable flow rate, which gives greater flexibility. For additional help please see this guide. 

Pump Function: Most pond pumps are designed with a primary use. Whether it's for running an ornate fountain requiring high pressure, a lower flow rate to run a small feature, or for pushing larger volumes of water and waste solids to a pond filter. If you are purchasing a pump to go with your filter, you must match the pump to the recommended flow rate of that filter as closely as possible to ensure efficient filtration and avoid damaging your filter.
