Equisetum hyemale - Dutch rush
The Dutch rush is a marginal evergreen aquatic plant that is native to the British isles and a focal point of the garden pond all year round. Its Thick bamboo type stems, with stunning black stripes can grow up to 1.8 metres in height and is ideal for attracting flying pond wildlife such as damselflies and mayflies.
To care for the Equisetum hyemale it is important to leave old growth throughout the winter and to use springtime to trim down old stems once new shoots have grown to around 15cm high.
The Dutch Rush prefers not to be shaded, is remarkably hardy and can withstand very cold temperatures.
