Technical Detail: Butyl Pond Liner (Isobutylene Isoprene Rubber) is produced by polymerization of specific fractions for the oil refining process. The sheet generally has around 75% Butyl Polymer and the rest is made up of EPDM. Due to increases in prices within the oil industry and demand from the Far East, Butyl polymer has become very expensive, however it is still regarded as the best liner available and most landscapers are happy to pay a premium for this pond liner due to its flexibility reducing the visibility of unsightly folds.
